Massive earthquake in Japan; tsunami warnings

An 8.9 earthquake, at a shallow depth. And at least 50 countries under a Tsunami warning, IIRC. This could get ugly...

I do some business in Japan. One of the guys I work with set up this site to accept small donations. If any of you feel compelled to give, check out this site. I don't know exactly where he's going to send the money, but he's very trustworthy.

I was wondering actually a few days ago (when I got some foreshock notifications) who still played from Japan. There was actually a 6.8 earthquake triggered not too terribly far from Tokyo.

Yeah it is pretty bad. Hotel company i work for is using building that weren't affected as shelter and we are doing fundraiser thing where employees can make a donation for relief effort and they will match. That stuff is scary one second fluff is fine next second giant wall of water coming at you.

Tremors = Great Movie = But very fluffty in real life.

also, very unfortunete and tragic. it is also scary that the earthquake happened right in line the pacific ring of fire, so perhaps we could also expect more earthquakes in other areas

The RedCross is also a reliable sourse for donations. I know I am going to send what I can and encourage everyone to. We can all skip something (movie rentals etc) for a week or so to give to these people. I cannot watch the scenes unfold on the news without crying.

Honestly, you guys are surprised by this? Facebook has 600+ million users. You could search ANY event that happens no matter how obscure and fill up a page of copy/pasted filth that people post to incite anger or show their own ignorance. It's not just Americans. Every country in the world has tons of incompetent, belligerent, assholes in them and unfortunately in this day in age even a moron can be taught to use a computer.

As it's said in Diamond Rio's song "God Only Cries": God only cries for the living because it's the living who are left to carry on.

More local impact for me could come because Japan is the only country with a consulate in Tennessee. Tennessee has significant business ties with Japan, so I have a local motive to wish Japan a quick recovery and to help them achieve it, in addition to all the very good, best of humanity motives.

Now there is the Shinmoedake volcano erupted yesterday. The rim is very active. Aftershocks are big, scary and many. Angel1 is so right. This will affect the world economy in a bad way, at a bad time. I pray for the people caught up directly in this tragedy.

I am sympathetic to the people of Japan. However, i do not understand American people offering so much or asking us to give them so much when we are having our own economic tsunami here. Our country is heading for bankruptcy and here we are borrowing money from China, only to give it in aid to Japan and other countries. Withing the last 100 years were we not at war against both of those countries? I am not saying people should not help people but why mortgage our own house to pay to rebuild someone else who has shown to be an enemy in the past?

And no way do i condone sending 1 troop of ours into a region with radioactive clouds. I am deeply sorry for your loss Japan but destroying both countrys will do not good for anyone.
