This is precisely the problem of no bots. In tourney given the low turn number and the slow pace, at least there's still workable liquidity to specialize. If the market is always empty, then you'd gotta be a rainbow. That'll be an entirely different game (for most of us except Ratski). xD

I think the bots definitely help keep players. At least in Express, liquidity in the public market is provided by the bots, without which the market would be empty all the time just because of the sheer number of turns people consume.

...juxtaposed with tourney, where it's 30 countries using only 50 turns a day - even then, we get empty public markets on many days...

And actually before the latest Express bots (been around a few years now), the only playable strat is techer. After the bot change, all strats became viable, though it is still easiest to win as a fasc farmer or commie indy.

Server's a great idea overall! Brand new rules means needing to think about strategy again - this reminds me of the last time you made changes to Express, and many came back to try to figure out what the best strategy is for winning. These things bring life back to Earth!

At first glance, it seems these new rules are all about the economic value of the land gain (production over remaining turns in the set), vs the cost of acquiring the land (military losses primarily).

While I agree, it's also easy for someone to just get 5-10m jets and keep SSing you non-stop baiting you into a pointless "war".

(And yes, you can retaliate against an all-jetter by farming the country to nothing, but then it'll quickly devolve into a... pointless war. lol)

If you want to finish well, then grabbing humans and breaking GDI is likely not the way to go.

Not at all - the bots being in crazy DR is because a bunch of the human players keep grabbing the bots into deep DR when it's actually better to explore. There's nothing one can do about it unfortunately, and this has been the reason why it's been very difficult to push the high nw finishes of before because it is impossible to grab land when every bot has been hit 10+ times in the past 8 hours. xD

That said, there usually are some bots that have low DR. Use https://eestats.lafamiglia-ee.eu/express to find them. The DR counter isn't accurate to this server, where half life is shorter at 8 hours, though directionally helpful.

Haha well in Express, with 360(360), any country can hit or kill any other country. It's not particularly competitive on the war front, it's more like whoever has the turns saved up and hits first will just KR the other bloke.

You can however get very ridiculous netgaining finishes because the bots are well-tuned here to be smarter than your average player, and so they utilize the market as such (creating a more active market). LOL You can see just barely 10 humans finish above bots every set on Express...

I like the proposed behavior!

1 thing worth discussing wrt to the current state of Express at least:
3) Retals + prefers to attack countries with the most land on the scores page
4) Retals + prefers to attack countries with the lowest NW/acre on the scores page

In Express right now, the country with the most land also tends to be the lowest nw/acre; this happens as a few countries break away with 30-60k acres from day 3 onwards whilst the rest stay small.

Does this mean if we get a lot of random rolls of 3/4 on the bots, then we should expect a whole load of bots just trying to hit the top land person?

It's interesting behavior for sure, though I wonder if it means that even if you keep high defence alongside 2 good def allies, you could get 20-30 bots just SSing you and failing, but reducing your military. lol

(I'm also assuming with these proposed changes, that we can increase the number of bots as well.)

I'm guessing the idea would be to make it an equivalent risk to hit a bot or a player, so essentially making the game feel like a 500 "player" game again, instead of 20 humans and 60 bots.

It no longer exists like in E2025, however, if you do go over 2b cash, then it decays owing to "corruption" which is a "new" concept introduced in EE. (It works similarly to food decay.)

Food on hand will still decay, so had to be placed on market.

It's usually some version of storing max turns, and buying as much tech as you can as early as possible.

The general problem with tourney is the tech market is empty early on, so if you don't be patient and store turns, you'll use a lot of these early turns with no tech. These tech advantages compound throughout the set, i.e. if you have 1% more tech at turn 100, you can buy another 1% more tech at turn 101 with your additional production etc. Also means you have 1% more production over the next 1800 turns, and both of these dynamics add up.

Tech starts are never worth it on tourney afaik - maybe possible if you do a super short one and start grabbing (the latter is also possibly a death sentence on this server haha).
