Bots are run by game admin to give players land targets.

They have names which are generated by a script https://raw.githubusercontent.com/...r/NameGenerator.class.php

With practice its possible to recognise the pattern - but you can check by searching that script.

As of now, they don't retal. So it is much safer/more profitable to farm bots for land.

Players that finish well, typically hit bots. Players that hit other humans typically don't finish well ;)

~50% are bots and yes purposely since those are devs made bots to bring land to servers where bots exist.

I never thought about bots buying military at the end. Never understood why people bother putting units up on sale at crazy prices. Don't the bots have a private market they can buy from?

They do, but once they empty that they head right on over to the public market.
