Do you consider something like an hp z820 or z800 not a workstation? Cause you can put 8x32gb pieces of ram in them no problem

The systems that I operate with 1tb of ram in them also have 4x nvidia k2 headless GRID cards in them. Each grid card has 8gb gddr5 ram and 2 gpu sockets with 4 cores each.
Each system can support over 30 CAD/CAM VMs each with their own 1gb gddr5 3d gpu hyper visor. It also helps to have dual fabric 8gbit backplane connected to a 10tb all SSD San that can do dynamic deduplication of storage at the block level to maximize storage capacity.
Yes I know how insanely expensive this sounds but it was double the price 2 years ago.
And yes you can play CS1 in high detail at 1920x1200 inside these VMs no problem.
SC2 is a bit choppy above medium detail
