It's starting to look like the guy was mentally disturbed. He says he wanted to start a race war, but his motivation for the killings seem to be actual disgruntlement with work colleagues. It's actually being called a workplace shooting (he was a former employee of the channel and has a history with not getting along with coworkers). As far as I know the police nor the FBI are investigating this as a hate crime.

And Buch you're wrong, you can still commit a hate crime against white people. It's just that in this case, it doesn't seem to be motivated only by race.

That said I think the police are still investigating, so it could eventually develop into a hate crime, but at this point it's not. We'll just have to wait and see.

If you read his manifesto it is a hate crime. He put a down payment on the gun 2 days after charelston. He ranted about the race wars.

Granted he is also a fluff that doesn't work well with others, but it was a hate crime. You can argue that race wars pushed him over the edge from an already unstable position, but it was a hate crime.

It definitely could be a hate crime, but let's not jump to butthurt conclusions here. This isn't the same as getting shot in the back while running away (Walter Scott) or a kid using a toy gun (Tamir Rice).

The whole prejudice + power definition of racism is very recent bullfluff goalpost moving when it has become apparent that there are a decent number of racist minorities among their population that are particularly racist against white people.

I prefer the term bigotry. Racism in the context of the US has centuries of craziness and bullfluff attached to it. Racism in the US is NOT the same as the base word in other countries.

The Charleston shooting has hate crime elements and mental health elements. This situation has hate crime elements and mental health issues. It is not proper to emphasize only a single aspect of either situation. Both sides should learn to be honest. A lie by omission is still a lie.
