As a Techie: I tend to explore and build to to 1920 acres, then I do a batch explore to ~3840 acres and build up. Once I am ready, I start attacking for land.

Next round, I was thinking of exploring and building up to 1920 acres, then once I am ready, I start attacking for land.

Any advice, ideas or suggestions?

Between the 2, you"re better off starting to hit after the batch explore

I think with the bots this is probably a viable strategy. I'm all-x + retal, so what do I know.

I suspect most techers follow something close to your current strategy, grabbing later rather than earlier. I don't do that and start grabbing once I see countries with 2,000 plus acres - even less if they come out of protection with no defence.

I make small gains in acreage over what I would get by exploring but I also get bits and pieces of money, bushels and even tech while military losses are tiny.

There are a few things which help or about which to be careful. Hitting countries at your own networth maximises returns; apply this formula for the units to send (again to maximise returns) 0.0495618 x target land x your land divide by 20; and you really can't afford to fail any spy missions at all.

What this leaves for you to consider is the question whether what are really quite small gains (over exploring) are worth the chance that you create enemies who later bust a gut to retal or else suicide.

Furious has never finished well.

He also has an extremely poor grasp of the way this game works. Hell, he probably still thinks it is impossible to solo kill.

Felt like I needed to add that piece of information.

you can make either work. Some of the really good players grab really early i've noticed, but they are really good at getting production and CS up early and making up the land difference very fast. You can do ok grabbing late as well. I tried going all-x until 8k acres then started grabbing after watching superfly a few rounds, made it to 18k acres.

But then again theres guys on here that can pull off 20-30k acre rep cashers so that's not great.

I always batch to 3800 then grab after that. I have multiple wins so it seems to work if you manage to not get topfed or retalled.

You could write a book - "ebert on teching".

Sell well, I'm sure. And there are the film rights. :)

Their disdain is because he has been purples for cheating, not because of his personality or current play style.

Thanks for the feedback folks, really appreciate it.

The points brought up was what got me thinking: if it was really worth exploring too 1920 acres before land grabbing? Making enemies too early in the round can be quite dangerous. GDI has its limitations, more so when playing against a determined player or a sore loser.

Death From Above is played by ebert and CROATIA is played by Gogy, highly skilled players both, in their different ways.

Cool, every round, without fail they take their counters, mostly towards the end of the round though, regardless of how high my defenses are. Courteous and professional too :-)

ebert specialises in the techer strat. He grabs extremely well, taking few risks - the introduction of bots suits his style well. He is very skilled at stocking and de-stocking and if you see his country in express with around 15 k acres doing nothing very much but staying low in the top ten or just out of it then you can pretty well say the set is his.

Gogy plays on most of the servers and is a bit more erratic. He is something of a loner, enjoys big grabs and even bigger retals and he gets into one on one scraps a lot. His fame rests on his ability to make solo kills quickly and with maximum efficiency. One minute his enemy is there, the next gone. It is brutal. He also sometimes gets his retaliation in first - following up a big grab with a series of ABs or whatever to cripple his target. Also brutal.

Such is the respect he commands that you will sometimes see his country, untagged, in Alliance sitting in the top twenty or top ten. The bottom feeders give him a wide berth. And they are wise to do so.

Something they have in common is that they both clearly enjoy their game. :)

Thanks for the compliment furious. I can second the gory is one mean killer. I fought him a couple times. Once well on the losing side and another where we both lost. Then I learned to not grab him lol.

I am curious now...

Does Gogy retaliate brutally or does he attack others brutally?

Is he fine with being countered or attacked brutally?

yea gogy is the most random player in the game. Sometimes i see him with the crappiest countries ever, and sometimes i'm left bewildered as to how he pulled off such a stock with a tyr/farmer. Ebert is a robot.
