Whoa is that a real article? Pretty crazy stuff I think some Americans are ready for a civil war.. I don't think the federal government would allow any of the states to secede from the union but this looks like they are going about it in a peaceful manner.

I didnt see my state to secede but I would think Arizona would have been the first one..but apparently they have no balls so I created one myself..most likely nothing will come of it.

IF I'M READING THIS RIGHT, IT IS NOT THE STATES THEMSELVES FILING THE PETITIONS. THEY ARE FILED BY PRIVATE CITIZENS, WHO ARE FAILING TO GET ANYWHERE NEAR THE NUMBER OF SIGNATURES REQUIRED FOR THEIR PETITIONS TO EVEN BE CONSIDERED. THE WRITER OF THE ARTICLE IS BEING RIDICULOUSLY MISLEADING BY STATING THAT "15 STATES HAVE PETITIONED THE OBAMA ADMINISTRATION FOR WITHDRAWAL FROM THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA"

Well, there are 23M people in Texas, so this kind of momentum has me convinced.

Its the same bunch of knuckleheads that have each other convinced that having a black guy in the white house (besides the ones washing the dishes, of course) is a sure sign of the apocalypse.

Honestly, if Ted Nugent and Donald Trump want to secede, I'd be willing to give them New Jersey and be done with it.

I could be wrong, but I thought Texas lost the first to succeed after the civil war.

Every 15 years or so, Canada has this same problem with separatists. Quebec tried to separate from Canada in 1980 and again in 1995.

The movement is starting up again... many analysts and radio hosts have adopted the attitude (don't let the door hit you on the way out as I kick it shut). The thing is... if Quebec (or any of the American states) separates, they'd have to write their own law code, their own currency, their own everything... What's the youngest country out there right now? Like South Sudan?

Except the Quebec movement actually has big support sadly. Theyd have more than 3000 signatures.

If Quebec would separate I would love it if Canada refused to trade with them and charged very large tariffs etc :P It wont happen though.

I advise everyone NOT to sign this petitition. It is likely a trap from the administration to get names to add to their new 'enemies list'. Lord only knows what will happen to those that sign this, but I suspect they'll begin to disappear one by one.

I think most people don't want them to but a lot of people are tried of the threat always being pushed out there. Many of their politicians try to bring it up and they have used is as bargaining power in the past. Many people just say that if they want to go so bad we should let them. I want Quebec to stay because they give us so many athletes though :P But fluff the separatists.

The problem with the idea of those states seceding..

The only reason Texas' budget is positive [the entire justification for the "texas miracle"] is federal transfer payments. Without the fed money, Texas is not profitable by themselves.

This is the same logic as "Keep governmental hands off my medicare"

Where are you getting your figures from? I've been googling mostly unsuccessfully, but the few sites I've found say that Texas receives about 90 cents back from the Federal Government for every dollar that Texans pay in Federal taxes:

I found another site that claims Texas received only 72 cents back per Federal tax dollar paid in 2010:

I have no idea whether these numbers are accurate, or where to find definitive information. If anyone does know where I might find such info, I'd be interested.

That being said, IF the above links are truthful, then to say that Texas' budget is only positive because of Federal money is incredibly misleading. If the money being siphoned off by D.C. were left in Texas' economy, they'd be in better shape financially than they are now. And that is even if Texas used whatever taxes they decided to collect just as wastefully and incompetently as the Federal Government does.

And if those links above contain false information, then I'd expect a google search to come up with an overwhelming barrage of statistics from left leaning websites claiming the contrary. From what I can find, they only talk about Texas and Federal dollars in vague terms like "Texas is addicted to Federal money".. Well of course they're addicted to getting their own citizens' money back.
