youre never going to avoid being retalled unless youre hitting a spam tag or untags. buying up a ton of defense after you grab another alliance is the EXACT reason people dont want to be landgrabbed.

With the scarcity of land these days I'm actually running a high offense, low defense jetter this set and inviting the countries I hit to hit me back. I really don't mind. Most cases both parties win. If you hit someone, expect to be hit back. It's the way things go =P

I like my high defense, it means people have to Retal me when I want, aka they have to hit me on my terms.

It sucks to be running turns and getting hit (screwing your tech Per turn/BPT), so people only hit me when I want them to hit me :)

If an alliance planned well and isn't full of morons you will always get retaled, commie/indy have the early advantage while techers get it later.

The only possible way to get far ahead is to have a bunch of democracies jump together and pull full time market control... And the RIGHT market conditions need to happen for that one to work.

Ok, if you maintain a similar networth/land ratio, it is win-win... The real way to come out ahead would be to hit someone slightly larger than you and drop defense/nw =P Dirty playing though... I enjoy the exchanges like the one I just had! 1k acre gain on both the original hit as well as the retal.

Then we go back to earth 2025, no one dares make a single attack towards anyone with cappable to make retals and as such the only 2 strategies will be maul the little untagged until returns are fluffty (14 acres per hit) and all explore.

I think everyone remembers how fun that was specially when you were the small guy getting mauled to ovblivion.

Is not like that pretty much killed the game.

Some people even lowered defenses to make sure that countries in friendly alliances they may have grabbed could make the retal, *gasp*. Nothing wrong with upping defense, but if you're landgrabbing and don't want to start a pissing match then it's probably good not to make it impossibly hard for anyone but they're mega-jetter to do the retal.
