"A student living in a rented apartment who grows a single marijuana plant and offers some to a friend would face nine months in jail, said University of Toronto criminologist Anthony Doob."

"The Ottawa Police Service and the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police said the bill would help restore public confidence in the justice system."

Wow... locking people away for sharing a joint restores confidence in the justice system? I wonder how long it'll take for a smart juror to confidence a jury to nullify this law the next time they're faced with sentencing some university student to 6 months for no reason... or better yet, a Judge to rule that despite evidence supporting guilt, the accused be found not guilty because of the outrageous disparity between punishment and crime. This is what happens when you give Julian Fantino a voice. I'm ashamed to be living in Vaughan.

our cops are getting paid overtime to babysit a bunch of protestors. they'll probably have an awesome Christmas.

any reason why they can't wait for y'all to make it legal to grow it and use it?

They don't do anything now to people in possession of crack / heroin / needles or anything else. I know this from first hand (not drug use) experience. Especially the Ottawa Police, they do as much as they can to AVOID the arrest or paperwork.

The only people that will be charged with this (at least locally) are people with other charges. It will be used as an extra grip for sentencing.

There was a person stopped at a spot check in NS who was obviously stoned, but they couldn't find it in his car even through he must have just thrown it out the window...

No fine, no arrest...

I love Canada!
