If LaF should be given credit for anything this set it is they provided a vivid reminder as to why running 800 turn mono-techers in order to blindside their enemy should be completely removed from the game.

No early war is fun. It is a grind. It takes no skill. It relies on surprise as the only factor that decides the outcome and worse, it is the single highest factor in pissing people off enough to say 'fluff this, I'm going to play CoD'.

The result is always the following: the recipient gets rightly pissed off, calls in the kitchen sink and their reluctant DPs call off their netting set to fight in a stupid war with their 280 CS and 100k of Bus/Res or Agri tech.

If there is no general consensus that this game was not designed to make early war enjoyable, these dumb wars will get earlier and earlier.

There is skill in building a decent 'wargaining' country in 12-14 days. There is skill in killing a well stocked country, to use your stockpile to break them. This is an enjoyment involved in making decisions over what to do next - blow my cash to break or hold out for a better target or use it to wall.

Let's face it, swinging a hammer is fun but it's swinging a sledgehammer that really gets my fluff hard.

The best way to fix this issue is to force everyone to build their countries for the first two weeks. Admins can do this, but I realise it might take some effort. Alliance leaders could fix this today by agreeing to a grace period. A period of 14 days where you build your country to the best of your ability - either to set it up for a netting finish or to fight a war.

What do you think? Can we cure this OOP war scourge from our game? Is it possible for alliances to sign a grace period pact that can be as simple as: "we guarantee not to declare war on any alliance before the 20th day of the first month of every reset".

Here's to hoping, because war in this form SUCKS.

Correct ArchAngel, you are echoing my point well, albeit a bit crudely.

Its funny that a netgaining alliance is the main party guilty of doing this. For them to do this to another netgaining alliance is a clear attempt to try force players into leaving that alliance.. As you can see in this case Evolution are gaining members. I wonder if LaF are put in the same situation if they can do the same? Or will we more likely see a mass outcry from LaF crybabies that the game is being ruined?

And dagga forcing people to war in one way would make war even lamer imo. There has to be a threat of an early war or everyone can play too safe. Maybe a no war till 200-300 turns to avoid 101 turn shenanigans but yah...

But how many members went missing during that time locket? LaF knew what they trying to do to Evolution this set and thats thats outrageous. They are trying to treat Evolution in the same way that led to SOL being hit by LaF and co.

It is not forcing anyone to war in a particular way. It is forcing skill into war. You should be able to (or be made to) build a decent country before you fight. Not rely on blindsiding. There are many games where you have to achieve something or let a period of time pass before you can attack.

I did :) Evo Leaders were content that we were pacted with LaF and believed that LaF would not break a pact. Even with my incredibly low opinion on LaF to begin with to be honest I never truely expected it.

But at least you can be happy knowing that I hold no authority to decide when Evolution will war or we would be FSing LaF OOP until you ceased to exist.

BattleKJ, that has been tried before, and it was a big fail, ended up with laf taking like 9 of 10 top 10 and 50% of top 100.

Dagga, I can see where having played most of your career in a war tag like Sol would color your opinion - but you lack perspective.

In ICN a few sets ago, we were not a strong warring alliance - just a sad fact. Sof was a weaker at the time but was still vastly superior to ICN at war. We used an early FS to PUNISH Sof, not because it was supposed to be fun for either side - we HATED warring, but an early FS was the only way we could impose our will on an aggressor. Sof crumbled and called in allies. Ultimately Sof was reborn from the ashes as a much better alliance. ICN got murdered, but simply forcing Sof to call for help was a victory and Sof and ICN were no longer enemies. Take away early war and war tags will have a monopoly on violence.

What your proposing is basically either only going to allow planned wars or wars between professional war tags. That sounds great to me, but the next time Sol wants to blindside a netter - you need to tell them before the set starts so they can 'spend 12-14 days building a decent 'wargaining' country'.

the obvious problem with this is that someone with the right incentive can farm during the no war period

either to be in a better position when war period opens, as a netting tactic, or for a war position to force an alliance to accept a war and not be able to claim they wernt ready
