gonna say it's probably a multi, note i never touched either of these guysm #13 or #69, and yet they missiling me to death. and this is why i quit in the first place way back in the day. OTOH, i just didnt know how new GDI worked and if i had, i wouldve joined, and none of this couldve happened to me. so ill try again next time.

Like I said i'll get GDI next time so I don't have to deal with cheaters. Don't really understand though, is there really a way for me to see IPs?

And either way is it a coincidence that #68, who I never hit, shoots me with a bunch of missiles, and then #69 messages me immediately after? I mean really? #13 I never hit either. And they all missile and message me back-to-back. It's not just random.

For all I know it's you who's the one cheating? Maybe not but is there a way to tell?

I think the multi claim is probably a big far fetched, but obviously a little uncalled for over just a double tap (on #68).

There might be some cross server collaboration going on there, but doubtful that it's multies. With the way you grabbed this set, this shouldn't be a huge surprise to you.

I hit #68 once for 200 acres and like 24 hours later (in Express) #68 went 4m jets 2m turrets to hit me back for 1200. Seeing as I had 4m jets at the time of that hit, it seemed stupid to lose 1000 acres in the deal, and I hit a second time to "even it out." Two hits isn't the end of the world but I knew I was asking for it and might get a war... I was ready for that and wouldn't complain if #68 had the guts and decided to go for a war.

But what I didn't expect was 100 missiles from other people who had nothing to do with it - people I never attacked. Maybe because i could've crushed 68... but it certainly seems like some off-server alliance if not a multi. The #68 and #69 thing messaging back to back also sure set off alarm bells.

Anyway, it's quite a welcome back after being gone for ~6 years. I canceled all my alliances and am just going to try to stop these folks from finishing too highly now. I mean, that was a lot of missiles. Next round I'll join the GDI.

your "evening it out" is called a retal on a retal - I would have killed you for it too. Of course, I would have just done it myself - calling in help is for candy asses like fatty ;-)

not sure if its been pointed out, but for next reset when you do join gdi if you hit somebody more than once, your gdi is void, and they are allowed to ab you ninety thousand times (assuming they have the turns)

but let's discuss "retaling a retal" because i'd like to talk about this specific scenario.

I hit a guy for 200 acres. 1x tap, nothing exciting. he goes almost all offense and semi-suicides to take 1200 acres from me (2000 after ghost acres). his defense is very low when he does this and i could easily 2x ps him at once even without adding more jets! is it some unwritten rule that he gets a "free pass" for going all offense and taking a ton of acres, just because it's a "retal"? That's the question I have. Possibly everyone says yes?

So I hit him one time and messaged him that he still gained 1300 acres profit on the transaction. If HE wanted to war over it, that would've been at least understandable. I would have never started a thread about that. And if I was in the GDI like I should've been, it would've been his only option. But instead he gets his buds to dump a billion missiles on me, which is undoubtedly lame, hence the thread.

I think we all agree Fatty is lame. I've noticed he goes around the forum screaming "waaaaaaa".

If you don't like the potential consequence of a retal, don't grab. Nothing gives you the right to go back and even the score if you make a bad decision and grab the wrong person, and get burned in the process.

You attacked someone, and the consequences were unfavorable. You retalled a retal, and sowed even more unfavorable consequences. There is nothing more to discuss.

If you want to try and claim the right to reprisal against someone that is already seeking to retaliate against you, expect escalation, and don't make your first instinct coming to the boards to QQ when it happens.

Check it out. Even back in the late 90s, before there was a such thing as express, the generally accepted retal policy across the entire game was a 1:1 retal policy. Even as the game evolved, and things like L:L came into being in 2000 or so, one thing remained constant, and still remains to this day:

If you lose out on a grab due to retal, you are fluff outta luck, unless you're ready for a fight. So, since you want your question so explicitly answered? Yes, the retaliating player should get a free pass, because the player that did the landgrab made a bad decision. If you don't like it? Expect a fight.

If you get a fight, don't come to the forums crying cheater with no evidence.

FACTS-

#68 and #69 messaged me 3 minutes apart, and #69 along with #13 hit me with over 20 missiles when I never attacked either of them. So when you say "crying cheater with no evidence," I don't know. Is there any way to get more definitive evidence? It seems/seemed like a legitimate suspicion. Why are we assuming it WASN'T a multi - is there some way to tell that I'm missing out on? And if it WASN'T a multi, what kind of alliance is this? Are you supposed to see that kind of thing in Express?

I also want to say, btw, that's a pretty dogmatic approach to the 1:1 thing. We're talking a guy about half my networth who I can pound into the ground anytime I want. He goes extreme jets and leaves himself completely exposed and manages to get in one shot - one shot that happens to take 1000 more acres than I took from him. "If you don't like it? Expect a fight." Fine with me... If they outgrow me or are stronger than me I'll suck it up and say well done, but if they're still half my size and basically suicided to get their retail, I don't like it and am ready to fight someone who does that. Just not their friends with their 20+ missiles. And I wouldn't have started this thread if the one going to town on my country was the one I'd been attacking. It's when I get slammed by random guys I've had no interaction with that I bring it on here.

yes, if he goes all offense to retal you, you have no recourse, unless you want to open up the possibility of him suiciding you.

but at the same time, if he goes all offense to retal you, many people will likely notice this, and go after his now weak defenses. so you yourself don't get anything back, but he certainly doesn't get off without reprisal (unless he's able to defend the acres)

You now are left with a choice- you can hit him, but you NEED to expect a war. Or you can cut your losses and you can count on no war, and netgain. You make this decision, not anybody else.

thanks braden, getting a clear picture that that's how it's done here. if im ready for a war WITH THAT GUY, if im in GDI and hit him back, does that void my gdi to the whole world or just to that guy?

only somebody who you have attacked twice or more will be able to do special attacks against you (gs, br, ab or missile)

Blid - you can dislike the way it works as much as you like. You can rally against it as much as you like. You can go to war over it as much as you like. But on this server, retalling someone who retals you because you made a poor grab and lost land will get you killed 9:10 times.

I'm not sure how you see someone buying up jets and retalling you as anything out of the ordinary either. It's not that person's fault you made a poor choice in land targets, and left them with that option.

Feel lucky though - they probably got to you before those guys you quad tapped got a chance to rally back and solo kill ya....cuz that would have made you look even worse.

this is their prerogative. you are then left with your own, again, you can netgain or you can fight. Nobody makes this decision for you, except for yourself. Join GDI, attack any single country a single time and nobody will be able to do anything but ss/ps (and a few other bullfluff spy ops)

I think the problem here is that blid thinks that EVERYONE on this server is here to net.
I personally prolly will never see a #1 finish,although i do try.If i get double tapped, the set is all war for me...prolly 80% of the players on this server feel the same.

You make a great retalitory hit, and then the bugger comes back and hits you again because you did a better job hitting back then hit did hitting. What would your reaction be? To say, "ya, he's right, I am still ahead"? Or to make the wise ass pay for thinking he can push you around?

Last reset, I posted my country number in IRC and two people (#42 and #43) pelted me with missiles. Just because the first person found a likely missile dump the second person followed the news. If you want to prove multies, I'd expect more proof than being missiled twice by a country.
