Suiciders primarily hit at the end of the reset, right? Stop selling of debt a few days before end of reset, and there'll be no last-minute hits. Also, sellers of debt could be limited to only SS/PS until debt is repaid, stopping them from suiciding w/ CM/NM/AB/etc.
Only landgrabs would be allowed while debt was outstanding. Maybe the admins could also implement a strict no-topfeeding rule for debtors, like the gdi 2x networth rule.

And why wouldn't every demo in the game have standing orders for oil that low?
And even if there weren't enough large orders routinely on the market to absorb a large volume of underpriced oil, any hint of tension between alliances would spur a dramatic increase.

You would probably have to reduce market commissions on t-bills, or the implied interest rates would be absurd(but a higher rate would make sense for commies!).

Numbers at Express server scale.
Add a new good to the public market, labeled "T-bills", each one obligating the (anonymous)seller to pay 500k dollars to the (anonymous)buyer starting 24 hours after purchase.

Seller gets purchase price; game engine sends 500k per bill from seller's cash balance at 24 mark, or as much is there, and confiscates proceeds of all sales(public or private) and all net tax revenues until bills are paid.

Randomized market times, standing orders should make it hard to send aid to individual countries. Smaller per-bill amounts and "smearing" of marketing times could add more cheat resistance; by smearing I mean you could break up large orders into smaller ones that go on at different times.

A country whose debtors died would receive a message stating how many bills had been defaulted on, but no more payment.

I was thinking that this would make Express more interesting, because Express prices would vary depending on the stage of the game in alliance/primary, varying which strats were more successful in X: wars in alliance would drive up oil prices in X, giving oilers a good chance at a high finish, while tech and bushel sell-offs in end-reset pri/ally servers would cause unusually low prices of said items in X for an entire five-day reset.

Introducing interesting variations in each Express reset, while stabilizing markets in other servers.

Differences in turn times wouldn't matter much actually. And lag in arb sales would compensate somewhat for the differences in market times.

How about a building speed bonus, at the magnitude as the building cost bonus?
We've got a defense bonus, even thought people can just buy more def; why not a way to increase building speed without increasing CS losses when attacked?

arbs could space their sales across time to make it more difficult, and they'd be selling at the highest price they could get so a buyout would rarely be profitable anyway

Why can't anyone on this thread do math?

16*2 = 32
16*3 = 48
16*4 = 64
16*5 = 80

min 50 countries would require 3.125 players at max countries. 4 players would exceed the limit at 12-13 countries each.

If game reset times were staggered correctly, there would never be a time when the public market on any server was empty, barring temporary good-and-server-specific buyouts.

Likewise, express countries could react more quickly to changes in alliance/FFA server prices, stabilizing their markets.

nhb316 Game profile

Also, during the course of a month-long+ reset, prices change due to tech accumulation, stocking/destocking, etc. If those markets were connected to X by arbitrage, it would add variety to the week-long express resets, with farmers/oilers/techers doing better/worse in x resets corresponding to different parts of the longer resets.

When an express reset starts, there is nothing on the public market to buy because no one can sell in protection. If an "arbitrage" system were established, express players could immediately buy imported tech/food/oil from alliance, primary, or FFA at realistic prices that changed whenever game mechanics in those servers changed.

I keep hearing how this or that good or tech has been undersupplied or oversupplied in Express, such that this/that strat does horribly. I thought "why not merge the public markets of several servers so as to allow sales between servers".

Then I realized that would allow alliances on alli server to send aid to express countries, and similar forms of cheating, and dropped it.

But what if instead you set up a bot to buy and sell goods on the different public markets at market-clearing prices where a surplus/shortage existed, like a real-life arbitrageur?

This would remove some of the market-scale problems in express and tourney without allowing people to send "aid packages" across servers.

I assume the lag time between selling and getting to market is supposed to represent transport time, but if our post-apocalyptic nations have have telephone/telegraph connections with each other, changing prices charged is a matter of a brief message, not long-distance freight.

I played my turns on FFA, got down to 1 turn on one of my countries, and sold bushels.
Unfortunately, I sold them for 39 dollars, meaning it's a coin flip whether they'll sell or wait 48 hours and come back.

I can't recall from the market for 1 hour 20 minutes, when I'll have enough turns to do so.

How about a button to reprice an existing sell order to currant lowest price minus one?
then I wouldn't have to come back in an hour just to play 4 turns.

I've done this two days in a row with this country, and its tech levels are starting to really suck...

I was really doing pretty good as a C/I this reset, till I impulsively tried to switch to CMBR.
I thought the increased sale size and tech effectiveness would make it competitive, but I switched without waiting to get military tech first, accidentally rebuilt 1000 indys, and mispriced most of my sales, totally screwing myself. After selling all my military on the PM and switching to theo, I built farms, switched to fascism for free demolition and the food bonus, and completed my transformation into a F-Farmer selling on the PM with the benefit of miltech I should have gotten for the CMBR.

It looks like the reset won't be a complete disaster though:

I played Earth 2025 in 2001 and on/off from 2005-2008(never finished a set during this time) and found EE a week or so ago. I wanted to run a all-x country for my first full set in express and figured i'd go all jets with a few tanks/troops to make random special attacks harder. later, after getting LG'd 5 times by someone, I figured i would AB them a few times and send them a warning message(since tanks have def value and jets don't), but it said something or other(I think it might have been GDI-related) and wouldn't let me hit 'em. same thing with a chem missile. wtf?

P.S. i didn't stay all-x due the presence of a 9ka country with 0 everything which I couldn't resist, but returned to only exploring afterward.
