Yeah that $250 is pure profit. That family doctor must have his nurses and medical assistants as slaves. Oh and his insurance against lawsuits for practicing medicine is also through the roof. Nevermind the cost of the building he's in. They live comfortably to be sure but to act like doctor's are just pocketting 520k a year doing physicals is absurd. $250 for an annual physical is a reasonable price that anyone should be able to get a job and afford. Many many places provide free clinics and if you shop around I'm sure you can get a good doctor that'll do it for less.

There is NO REASON people can't go to work and pay for an annual physical unless they are mentally handicapped or disabled. NONE. Hell when I worked as a grocery bagger starting out at 5.75 you could purchase health insurance for $50 a month. The employees who do not get insurance as part of their employment package where I work now can get it for $40. Seriously the access to healthcare is there. If you don't have healthcare and are an able bodied human being it's more then likely(but not always) your own fault and your own life choices that cause that.

I know I sound like a crazy Tea Partier here but I actually am in favor of universal health care. But only universal catastrophic health care. If you develop bone cancer or catch some crazy deadly virus or have some rare birth defect I do not mind our tax dollars covering that kind of stuff because that's just something that is impossible for an individual to cope with on their own. However day to day medical expenses are not so exorbant that you can't cover them through hard work. You can even get stuff like braces and whatnot on affordable payment plans if you don't screw around and F up your credit.

The Tea Partiers don't get it either. The American people are not sick of progressive ideas OR conservative ideas. They are sick of gridlock and SICK of all of these allegedly intelligent people going to Washington and not doing fluff. They cannot make intelligent compromises to move forward on ANYTHING and the Tea Party people who do that are themselves going to be voted out if they bring that crap to the table because THAT is the "more of the same" people in general are bleeping sick of. We don't WANT you to go there and play hardball with your all or nothing approach. We want you to pass some effing legislation and get as much as you can of whatever side your constituancy happens to be on but not at the expense of nothing effing happening.

People, just like the government need to learn to live within their means while they have a good job so that it isn't a catastrophic event when and if they lose it. And IF they lose it they need to be willing to collect cans on the side of the road to feed their kids and not cry about it. The world changes, just because your father made a living going into a coal mine or a car factory every day dosnt mean those jobs should be available forever for anyone who wants them.

I come from a household in the inner city growing up where I slept on a cot in the corner of the living room at night. The house was frequently broken into and my parents ONE car had a bullet hole in the back of it. I myself worked for 5.75 bagging groceries and 6.00 working for Target. I did what I was supposed to do in school got a scholarship for college and worked to pay for the rest. Now I work for a telco and have worked my way up through several promotions there and make decent money. My dad worked for $150 a week when I was small and worked his way out as well and now makes over $150k a year. He got a Masters degree when he was 30 paying and taking his classes 1 at a time. Neither of us have struggled to hold a job even during the recession.

It's a matter of understanding that this isn't 1950 anymore if you'd like a job. Some of the DUMBEST idiots I know went and got their diploma mill bachelors degrees from the University of Phoenix and make 45k+ a year as department managers at Target. If you need a degree you take the minimum wage job and go to community college or a diploma mill and get one or go to a real university and take one class at a time. You can still work your way up in the world in this country but it's WORK, not entitlement.

Wow a lot to respond to here. A lot of retardedness especially regarding the founding fathers. If there was one constant among the founding fathers it was that they did not agree and in fact often vehemently disagreed on nearly every subject. There were many founding fathers who were very religious and there were some who were Deists and possibly secret atheists. But to make the positive statement that the "founding fathers" as a group were one way or another shows a poor understanding of the early history of our nation.

One thing the founders were collectively good at was rationally debating and forging solutions and compromises to situations where they horribly disagreed and the separation of church and state is one of those.

As far as marraige it is undoubtedly a religious institution in it's origins. Whether that matters or not at this point in history is the question. To be quite frank I could not care less whether homosexuals are able to marry or not. However I will argue a few things. Sexual orientation is NOT a Constitutionally protected qualifier such as race/religion etc.... so there is no Constitutional mandate to allow same sex marraige. In fact marraige in general is something that is reserved to the states and people under the 9th and 10th amendments. Comparing the "struggle" for gay marraige to the civil rights movement or even women's suffrage is LAUGHABLE. When gays are having dogs sicked on them and fire hoses turned on them by police we'll talk. In reality homosexuals have the exact same right to marry someone of the opposite sex as everyone else. As a straight man I'm not allowed to marry my friend in order to give him health insurance etc... either.

That being said the Defense of Marraige Act is completely unconstitutional. The Constitution clearly states that states must respect the laws of other states. This is why your driver's license is valid in other states. So if Massachusettes wants to legalize gay marraige then Texas is just going to have to suck it up.

The Tea Party at least in my region of the country is constituted by a lot of the Old South. I am a Republican but I have grown up in the South my entire life and it is quite simply a fact that there are a hell of a lot of Old South racists in the Tea Party.

Unfortunately by comparison to batfluff insane positions like that Harry Reid is probably a better candidate.

The never ending train of ridiculous partisanship is what's killing America. If you are in EITHER party and have one view different then whatever the hardline purists have in that party they will run someone against you. All of the reasonable moderates are being run out of town by the crazies on both sides so that they can have their ideological war. Kinda sounds like the prelude to the Civil War in many respects.

What we need to do is simply abolish parties, stop recognizing corporations as PEOPLE (for instance corporations as an entity should not have a right to free speach via campaign spending) and have a candidate based electoral system rather then a party based system so that in order to get anything passed these morons have to actually fluffing talk to one another and convince each other of their positions to get a majority vote.
