As of now, this game only accepts English/Latin Alphabets.

I do recall last round in alliance, someone attempting to use a Russian/Cyrillic country name, and it failed, resulting in a blank country name.

Our non-English players would greatly appreciate change and it'll give us more ways to express ourselves.

Please consider allowing more characters for country names. I too would like to be able to name my country with non-latin characters.

I'm sympathetic but I'm not sure that we can do this. There are many third party websites that use our news feeds, ranks feeds, and spy op uploads that may not be able to handle non-latin characters in country names. If we make this change we could break those tools and websites. Some of them no longer have active maintainers.

This should be possible.

Just make the display with Latin characters and use non Latin with webhooks
Resistance is futile. You will be assimilated.

Celphi, do you mean something similar to https://www.php.net/...ual/en/function.iconv.php ? Although I see a lot of comments complaining about that specific function.

This would also add an additional risk of inappropriate country names being created since I'm not sure how multilingual the current moderator team might be. There is already the challenge present of attempting to translate some reported ingame messages

I was referring to: https://www.php.net/.../normalizer.normalize.php

As for helping moderators, I could make an ai program which spits back 0 or 1 if a post is deemed inappropriate. You could then add to it where a moderator could see a list of "flagged posts" where they could make visible or punish user via decrease in bonus points.

The main advantage here is the program would be able to flag posts indifferently and instantly.

What I would need is about 2k+ posts of offensive posts. The more you could provide the more accurate the ai would be in detecting it. I would imagine you would be able to sql dump that based on deleted posts? IDK.

I believe `echo transliterator_transliterate('Any-Latin; Latin-ASCII', $countryName);` shall prove its usefulness.

As for moderation, there are players who already report inappropriate country names. There is no shortage of those who want to see the demise of another player.

Has anyone looked into the viability of using the transliterator function? I believe this is a great compromise. It don't break code old code on third party websites, and it allows players to really express themselves.

You could probably run non-latin country names automatically through google translate for a rough and dirty translation. It probably won't catch colloquialisms but people can still get around this limitation even with latin characters.
