We plan to include expected bushel decay as part of food consumption (so it would work the same way as corruption). The problem is that the NPC code updates its food quantity based on turn by turn results. Those turn by turn results don't currently include bushel decay, so the NPC countries think that they have more food than they actually do. You can guess what happens sometimes as a result.

I think that this change would make things slightly easier for players as well. Estimating the number of turns you can play with your current food would just be dividing food by consumption because bushel decay losses decrease as food decreases.

Does anyone have an objection to this change? I don't remember why we didn't include bushel decay under consumption in the first place.

Sounds great to me. Would it be an additional line in the country status like corruption? It would be nice to see like:

Production
Consumption
Decay
Net change

I think I'd prefer that because I'd like to still be able to see my actual consumption when I have a pile of bushels on hand, but I think it is a definite improvement even if you roll it into consumption, and I assume that's probably a much easier change and something the hand math is easy on because decay is a fixed amount. I'll be happy either way but itd be nice if it had a line on the advisor for my stock phase.

I think he means to add it as a tooltip under bushels tab on top and with the calculation of turns of bushels taking into account decay, without taking food production/consumption change into account ofc since that would be impossible.

I wonder if it will be an iterative calculation or he will just use current decay, because Im no math wiz so I dont know any analytical solution to "Turns of food left".

no real downside

its obviously easy enough to work out how much of consumption is decay anyway

it doesnt need to be complex because if food is dropping then decay will be dropping as well so if you calc it simple that just gives a buffer

the only thing which can cause problems is if you get a negative food boom, earthquake wouldnt matter as empties will produce more food, and percentage of farms is pretty low in rainbow

.4 vs 5.3 implies 7.5% of land being quaked as farms would be neutral no tech, but they have tech so it would have to be double which i dont think they could be

although some of them seem to be really neutral on food

Yeah but cash futures are wrong during quakes too. The first part I agree with entirely. It's actually SUCH easy math to figure out how much of your consumption is decay, that I'm asking for something specifically because I'm lazy haha. That's why I said if it is easy throw it on there but it's totally not necessary haha.

For now, it'll just be making these numbers match up: https://imgur.com/a/t00B2zX .
