I think you misunderstand the purpose of Lent and Ramadan... this is a time of fasting and sacrifice. Not really a celebration.... :)

It absolutely is also a time for celebration. Yes it's a time for fasting, but it's also something to celebrate.

That's why we say in Arabic "Ramadan Kareem" and "Ramadan Mubarak", and we use those *same* words to celebrate Eid - "Eid Kareem/Mubarak". Many of us look forward to this time of year, and we decorate our homes accordingly (albeit that may be a more Western Muslim thing).

All of us in this house observe lent. But Colin is Jewish so they do things differently.

Well my brother and I are Lutheran and observe lent. My brothers partner is catholic so it’s same rules slightly more relaxed for Lutherans. Colin is most know Jewish. So lots of holidays observed or celebrated in this house. Thanks drow!

Let’s not squabble over religion. We always (at least those of us with class) mention lots of faiths or no faith at all and we all try to wish others well, in any faith. Which is nice.

Tan, we do observe like Catholics. Lutherans are just Catholics that have more fun. Married, sex, mild drinking.

My sincere apology if I don't fully understand Islam. I was speaking mostly from a Catholic perspective and the Muslim folks that I have known. Of course the Muslims that I have known skew to mostly Arab (Saudi, Jordanian). Attitudes probably are different for different regions just as Catholics vary somewhat across the globe.

Thank you Doug - as you say I was not trying to offend anyone. I was just noting something that seemed funny as a Catholic being told to 'celebrate' Lent. And surprisingly I did not immediately think someone was trying to 'explain' my religion to me. Just that they misunderstood it a little. :)
