I am having trouble understanding this part of a question. I do not want just the answer I want to understand how to do it.


A country has a total biocapacity of 6.21 ha/person, a biocapacity of grazing land of 0.85 ha/person, and a biocapacity of forest land of 2.53 ha/person. Calculate the percentage of biocapacity from grazing and forest land.

when I do the equation they listed even with the samples I get different answers.

(Fg (.85 ha/p) + Ff (2.53 ha/p)) / Ftot (6.21) × 100% = gf

(.85+2.53) / 6.21 × 100 = 54.43% grazing and forest land.

The reason you get variable answers is likely because the order of operations. Because of the wording of the statement you need the first parenthesis to get an accurate answer. Your equation is missing those.

I'm pretty bad at explaining, did that make sense?

Like if i want to find the precentage of 4+3 divided by ten (obviously 70%), if i enter 4+3/10×100 into a calculator, the order of operations is such thay 3 will be divided by ten first, then that times 4 and then have 4 added which will give an answer of 34%. You need the parenthesis around the addition to make it go first and get the result of 70%.

In all formulas multiplication and division happen before addition and subtraction unless parenthesis are added to make plus/minus go first.

yeah order of operations wont matter at all here as long as you have the paranthesis which you have to.
