I know I know I'm a fluff, but my daughter (12) hasn't been smart about her privacy. I was a frequenter of aol chats and fluff when I was a kid but she took to another level.

Bottom line my router website blocking and opendns are not working at all when it comes to block Discord. Does anyone have any answers?

I use a service called Bark (https://www.bark.us/). You can put her on a VPN through bark and block stuff you control from the web or an app on your phone. I take the approach of addressing choices and behavior vs. just cutting off because teaching good decision making is more valuable than just building a wall. There will always be ways around that, such as their friend's devices, etc... But that is just a matter of opinion on what is best for you, maybe something to think about?

With that said, have you tried to block from your actual modem (DSL, Fiber, Cable) vs. the router? Normally you have the ability to block anything coming in.

Things would be a little different if she wasn't dumb enough to use her school computer (she literally joined #nsfw AT SCHOOL smdh)

I've blocked all the discord domains I've found but it doesn't help at all.

At this point I've just enabled monitoring on my router and let her know that I did.

If anyone reading this thread saw what I saw they'd be at the point of blocking as well, not gonna divulge but just trust me on this. She was warned of everything and still made bad choices so she is now dealing with the consequences.

I don't know what port discord uses, but you should be able to block that specific port, on your router, or the computer you're using.

I have been slightly laughing at this thread. Because now our kids have been doing the fluff we did and it is pissing us off they are doing it better (or maybe more extreme?).

You could always fist fight her, you have a height and weight advantage and the knowledge of how to fight dirty. If you apply yourself i have no doubt you could take her down.

if they are using a pc rather than ios/android hosts file will always work as well, i think you need an unlocked rom to do hosts file on ios/android now which is probably something you wouldn't want your kids to use

its probably worthwhile putting a hosts file filter on the laptop

but the natural evasion on a phone if they realise what your doing is to turn off wifi when they want to use discord

maybe one of those ipads with only wifi and no phone network would be pretty easy

the always on vpn suggestion could work, i assume theres a phone management solution for that

I feel for you mate. Kids are early teens now and the stuff they are exposed to now is similar to 20 years ago but on steroids x1000.

Your one click away from the most violent / extreme / anything content out there and the access doesn’t filter on age anyone can access it, as a parent that gets my blood boiling.

What device does she use it on? Using browser or app?

Tablets and phones are easier to block, but it involves restrictions to normal use as well and not just discord.

Qustodio or Net Nanny are good programs if its via a browser. If its a tablet or phone, i literally don't let them use a browser. Depending how you setup your phone account, you can actually see everything they download (app) wise on your account.

Also, fear. Fear is a good tactic. I tell my kids that their tablet will explode. The tricky part is figuring out how to make it explode when they do download something or watch something bad. At least without them getting hurt. But that's what makes us parents. Trial and error.
