err some process was thrashing one of the CPU's and the networking apparently... i was at work, hence the ~ 8 hours; it started just around when i was getting to work

Finally did the signature thing.

well technically there was something like 97% packet loss; even if only 1% of requests got through, boxcar hits once per second, so there should be at least 3 numbers per hour that happened i'd say :)
