Are you Trump simps so stupid that you don't realize gas prices were so low under Trumps last year because global demand was at an all time low due to COVID? Oil fluffing went negative briefly because demand was so low.

I am not a Biden fan, like at all but it's not hard to realize gas is currently overpriced with the excuse if the Ukraine war. Before the war it was around $95/barrel and gas was $3.25-$3
45 per gallon. Putin invades and oil jumps to $120+ gas prices jump to over $4. However oil prices have been back down to the $95-100 range for quite some time now and yet gas prices remain at $3.80+. I want oil companies to explain why $100 oil us 50 cents more expensive at the pump than it was a few months ago. THAT piece of high gas prices is not Biden.

There are no penguins in the interior of the continent where I lived. I’ve only ever seen one wild one and it was an Adele that ran up to us waiting to get on a plane. It probably failed to find a mate and was suiciding by running inland alone. Penguins have some weird seppukku rules about that.

A little bit! Not as cold as the first time at the extreme (first winter got to ~-109 F, this time it got around ~-103 F) but it was a lot windier this go around which sucks much more than colder temps when you're outside.

Are we all forgetting that it was basically cheaters aka multie runners and their desire to keep doing it that killed the population of this game when it was far more popular? Even the strongest alliances tried to fight them and all got whittled down by neckbeards like Ronnie and Peanut that had no problem fluffing with people continually for months and years on end. This coupled with the permissive attitude of the administrator and the community at large to this behavior (largely because many influential people in the community were either in on it themselves or were best buddies with those who were) caused massive amounts of players to say fluff it, quit and never come back.

Marshal has the story on the one I'm talking about. The Buzz Aldrin one was in the Australian summer when LC-130s fly frequently.

The winter medevac was nuts because no one had ever flown to Pole in the middle of winter and landed. Big planes can't do it because you need to land on soft pack snow so you need skiis. They also can't land because hydraulic fluid freezes at those temperatures. So they had to send a small ski equipped bush plane. Those planes barely have enough fuel to make it here from Rothera Station on the coast. If they get a headwind they turn back because they won't make it. Any who when it landed we had to pull the plane onto bamboo we laid out so the skiis wouldn't freeze to the ground and we had to wrap the engines up to keep them warm while it refueled or else they'd have been stuck here with us. Crazy stuff.

So if you read about the medevac that happened at the South Pole in 2016 that was me and my crew there for that. In one of the "am I really here and doing this!?" moments we had to find a way to make a lit runway in -80 for the medevac plane to land on. The way it was decided to accomplish this was to saw oil drums in half, fill them with AN8 jet fuel and light them along the skiiway edge. So me and 3 other guys are out testing this. Problem is fuel won't ignite at those Temps because it doesn't aerosolize. Solution was to stick a 2x4 in the drum like a Wick and have a guy in fire gear with an acetylene blowtorch hold it lit until the surface Temps rise enough to light the fuel. We were all just hoping it didn't explode.

I only saw one penguin and it was literally as I was leaving the continent. We are literally standing on the glacial ice next to the plane getting ready to walk on and an Adele penguin runs up to us to hang out for a while :P

It does not work here at the South Pole :( It uses Google Maps and there is a singularity at the pole which causes you to fly hundreds of miles ingame taking a step in any direction.

Really really really REALLY cold. Like nothing people from civilization experience. It was -90 F WITHOUT wind chill a few days ago. It will get below -100 F before the winter is over. I have gotten minor frostbite a couple of times without even being outside all that long.

So one of our primary satellites has been acting up and I haven't been able to get online much lately but sweet merciful crap has the world gone to fluff! I log on today and there's been like 5 significant terrorist attacks in the past week. Not gonna lie I'm kinda glad to be insulated from all of this insanity for the next 12 months. Short of an ICBM we're pretty safe at the south pole.

Don't have much time to be on now either but just wanted to say hope everybody here is safe and doing well!

That'd be pretty hard for me to do Heston since I'm going to be stationed at the south pole when the penguins are at McMurdo :P

However if anyone wants a postcard or something postmarked from the south pole post office PM me your address and I'll send it your way!

I do have one picture though. Pegasus Field is 13 miles from McMurdo station so we had to catch a ride back after the plane landed. Because of the fog literally everything was white. The plane had no windows so stepping out into this with snow flurries whipping up around you was like landing on an alien planet, very cool:

The bars were closed the day that I flew in. But they are open tonight! I just found out today that we landed in dense fog (which I knew when we got out) and the pilots basically did it using their instruments because the C-17 had 15 minutes of fuel left and he had no choice because we had been circling for a while. Oh and the landing strip was just a white snow runway on glacial ice shrouded in white fog. Fun times!

Heston: The penguins are not out right now and feather collecting is illegal :( I'll be gone to Pole before the penguins get far enough into the ice to be seen from McMurdo.

Not a scientist. I am just passing through McMurdo on my way to the South Pole station where I'll be the network engineer for the station for the next 12 months.
