What is a good spies/land ratio? I am playing industrialist and wondering how much I should put toward spies for protection.

Anywhere between 15-30 SPAL (spies per acre of land) should be good. Spies cost a lot of upkeep though.

Interesting.. My SPAL is 25 and I have failed more general spy ops than I expected this set. I was thinking my SPAL was too low, but maybe I just have horrible luck.

if you're talking about primary OMA, then the avg spal has been rising set after set. it's a lot higher than other netting servers now.

I found dict & demo to be particularly difficult to spy. Running an average of 23 SPAL.

that high spal is too high unless you are playing highly active landgrabber who wants to avoid retals.

good spal depends what you do, if you landgrab then you might want high spal but if you aren't attacking then 15-30 spal is enuf like xin said. also on what server you play depends what kind of spal you need.

good spal is high enuf to stop random grabbers from getting op but can't stop those who really want to take your land (no spal stops "worst" of those).

So I got greedy and tried to go no spy route. Got spied then attacked haha! Im currently sitting on 11 spies/land. This seems to be doing OK in deterring attacks.

I guess that biggest threat is having your army demoralized repeatedly by spying and then getting attacked. If you have enough spies to stop your army from being demoralized you should be ok as long as you have enough defenses.

no spies or very low spal is definetely no, even bit too high spal is better than non-existant.
