Is this still a good strategy for the Tournament game?

I haven't played for many years, but this was my normal strategy.

That strategy works fine. Depends on the market just how well it works. Generally the market is better for cashers, indies, and even techers than it is for farmers, but the game needs farmers.

I always liked the farming life, it gives a huge amount of flexibility.

Thanks for the info though!

tech start in tourny is always good. It's a 1800 turn round (2100+ if you spend your bonus points on turns), so tech start will get you the much needed advantage over non tech starters. Also, tech prices are generally higher in tournament since no tech alliances are allowed which means lower supply vs demand. So it's good to go for a tech start as tech will be ~$3000 for a while at the beginning.

A "tech start" is when your country initially first focuses on building labs (say about 1500 of them), after which you spend about 100 turns (can be more or less) just teching.

Once you have acquired a decent amount of techs relevant to the strategy you intend to go (say Agriculture tech if you want to be a farmer for this example), you tear down all the labs and rebuild them all as farms, and will have higher farm production. This extra production from the tech will boost your country significantly with higher income to be able to buy more tech points from the market to maintain the tech %.

Seems like a solid strat, as long as you don't spend too much time teching. I'm doing it in primary and it's going well.
