oiler isn't good strat (w/o some luck) so luck with it.
Patience: Yep, I'm with ELK and Marshal.

In order for an oiler to be profitable long term(beyond about week 1.5), you need to be able to sell oil for 5.5X the price of bushels. So... Bushels at $50/ea mid set? Hell, even a average of $44 for the entire set, need to sell oil at $242/bbl.

The only reason it can be beneficial to run oiler early is if you can sell oil for 2.5x the price of bushels. Which is usually something you are able to do. Selling oil for $80-110/bbl while the rest of farmers haven't bought any tech yet means you are making more money than a farmer of equal land.

Seriously, if we all seem to know that best casher strats are 11:10 ENT/RES, then how the hell do you guys not all know when it becomes profitable to run an oiler?

there are n00bs, morons who undercut alot and players who don't have slightest clues about strats.

$50 is a good price, just keep it for the rest of the set.

5.5 times? I dont think so.

Assuming a 10k Facist Farmer with 200% Agri tech (Normal Tech amount that a farmer should keep during mid set)
Food Production : 5.3 * 10000 * 1.15 * 2 = 122k food

A 10k Facist Oiler
Oil Production : 10000 * 2 * 1.75 = 35k Barrels

So 122/35 = 3.5 times.

Assuming food is at $50 (with above example), one turn will get you $6.1m cash.
6.1m / 35k = $175 / barrel

If food prices is at $50, your oil must sell for at least $175/barrel to be making the same as a farmer with 200% agri tech, not $242

For early set sake(assuming farmers have 0% agri tech, ><)

3k Facist Farmer : 5.3 * 3000 * 1.15 = 18,285

3k Facist Oiler : 3000 * 2 * 1.75 = 10,500

18,285/10,500 = 1.75 times

You would just have to sell oil for 1.74 times of food prices ($35 now) = $62 to be producing as much as a farmer.

You are expecting too much as an oiler.

11:10 ENT/RES? Maybe thats why Sanct can't net. Or maybe it's because you shouldn't be a casher in 1a to begin with. But keep thinking 11/10 is the golden number :)
