Friends, I cannot state more clearly the following sobering fact: The public perception is that Life Sucks's mottos are one of those things that will thrust all of us into scenarios rife with personal animosities and petty resentments. Here's a quick review: The tone of Life's flimflams is eerily reminiscent of that of mumpish, malodorous lie-virtuosi of the late 1940s in the sense that by following Life's suggestions, we have become such poor caretakers of the tree of liberty that it has wilted and is sagging dangerously close to the ground. (Note the heroic restraint stopping me from saying that the more we give Life, the more he wants.) Are we going to step back and let him lock people up for reading the "wrong" classes of books or listening to the "wrong" sorts of music? I can tell you this: I will be speaking out—every day and everywhere—to make sure that we do not.
