Yeap I agree, commies are too strong in primary, probably in express too. Underpowered in alliance and tourney though. Team seems quite balanced.

Do you suggest an improvement that would balance this?

Increase attack losses for commie by 15%

Increase defence losses for theo by 15% as well and remove stupid GDI "penalty" for theo since it's worthless.

These changes would make med tech more popular.

Decrease industrial production by 10%

caffeineaddict Game profile

Do you think that a decrease in industrial production of 10% would cause much of a difference in military prices?

That would also make an MBR more profitable

Commie isn't too strong, you guys just don't have anyone good playing casher.

Caffeineaddict's suggestions would be pointless. Jedioda's suggestion would make indy even better. If you want to weaken indy, you need to increase their production, not decrease it.

I'll have to disagree on this one, military price would be fluff, but when a commie is destocking, it'll be super strong.

i disagree with you rockman. Decreased industrial production would increase military prices, but by much less than 10%.

Military, unlike say tech, is something that players are forced to buy based on how much military other players have. In particular, if the large commies, who are the main people grabbing, have less military b/c of lower production, other countries need to buy less military to protect themselves. So I suggest decreased indy production leads to decreased demand for military cancelling out some of the increased military prices.

Also if military prices are too high players will simply choose to continue to play all-x for a bit longer. Lower military prices encourage people to attack, because the cost of attacking (lost jets/oil) is lower.

Basically, I forget if the word is inelastic or elastic, but whichever one is correct, demand for military is more THAT WORD than say demand for tech...

So decrease in military production will not lead to such high increase in military prices.

And finally (most importantly) a commie does not sell all of his military, only some of it. So prices would need to go up more than 10% for C/I to be be able to obtain networth similar to previous sets (of course this does overlook that increase in military prices hurts NW potential of other strats as well... but I suggest this to be of a smaller order)

Rockman, are you suggesting an increase in their production would
- increase military sales per commie
- possibly increasing the attractiveness and popularity of commies
- increase miltary expenses
- create oversupply therefore reducing public market prices keeping gross revenue flat

So net revenue should be reduced to make them weaker?

Is that your logic?

If you decrease industrial production, then the optimal portion of the server playing indy goes up, not down. Thus, unless the decrease in military prices causes an increase in people playing Commie Indy, you will see Commie Indies doing better than before with a decrease in production.

If you have 10 indies producing enough military for 40 countries right now, and you decrease their production by 10%, then these 10 indies will now only produce enough military for 36 countries. That leaves 4 countries with no military to purchase off the public market.

If you have 10 indies producing enough military for 40 countries right now, and you increase their production by 25%, then 8 countries is sufficient to provide military for the 40 countries, leaving 2 countries with military unsold on the public market.

The demand for military is fairly inelastic, as its determined more by what you need for your land, rather than just what you can afford. An increase or decrease in jet/turret prices by 20% won't have too big an effect on how much military people get. It will be more reliant upon how much military other people purchase, and thats limited more by upkeep concerns and habitual networth per acre amounts than anything else.

Increasing indy production would make it's already powerful destock even stronger.

Are the non indies not as aggressive at grabbing? I haven't really played around with them.

I think Chewi hit it on the head. It's not a cash/turn issue it's a speed of growth issue. The commies grow bigger and faster than everyone else. I think that's due to needing less tech for full production. After 500 turns a casher is likely only 50% teched, and a commie may not have bought any tech, but is still outprodcuing on a cash/turn basis. That allows for earlier growth and a snowball effect. If a casher were to grow in land as fast, they would be able to win.

In saying all of that, I think a casher or farmer can still win with the right grabs. A techer is more dependent on the market than any other strategy.

A techer will never win in primary under the existing conditions. Tech prices are way too low way too early.

Lol. I never expected tech prices to be as good as it is this set. A properly played techer with these prices could easily break 150mil nw

I doubt it will crash soon. Cashers, farmers and commies are still growing fast and will need more tech, much more. Also, the number of significant techers wont change anymore at this point. It will crash only when commies, farmers & cashers are into their stock phase which isnt anytime soon

Bobby ATA, you're 'the butcher'?
Based on some BOTE calculations, 150m should be achievable for a techer - provided the market holds up.
